New Emergency Notification System Enhances Campus Response Plan
Rose-Hulman
New Emergency System: Three 60-foot tall steel poles with the new notification system have been strategically placed throughout campus to alert persons and campus neighbors about emergency situations.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has installed emergency notification system to notify the campus of emergency situations that may occur on campus.  These events could include tornado warnings, violent person/active shooter on campus and local community emergency situations.  The system also has the ability to broadcast real-time live messages.

The emergency notification system enhances Rose-Hulman’s existing campus emergency response plan.  Additional emergency communication methods (mass e-mail, text messaging and internal building alerts) will also be utilized in the future to supplement the new outdoor emergency notification system.

The emergency notification system, purchased from Capitol Electronics (Plainfield, Ind.), includes three 60-foot tall steel poles with a Federal Signal Modulator Model 5020.  Each modulator contains 20 100-watt speakers that have an effective range of over 3,200 feet in a 360 degree coverage pattern.

The system’s range of one-half to three-fourths of a mile will also alert neighbors and community members near the Rose-Hulman campus of threatening weather conditions and emergency situations.  The surrounding area will include neighborhoods in the Robinwood, Phoenix Hills, Woodridge, Hawthorn Woods and Wyndham subdivisions in Vigo County.  Lost Creek Elementary School will also be covered.
