Rose-Hulman
Institute
of
Technology’s
Department
of
Civil
Engineering
has
received
an
inaugural
Walter
LeFevre
Award
from
the
American
Society
of
Civil
Engineering
for
outstanding
promotion
of
licensure,
ethics
and
professionalism.
Rose-Hulman
was
awarded
an
honorable
mention
plaque
–-
one
of
three
national
honors
presented
this
year.
Iowa
State
University
was
recognized
in
the
large
program
category
(more
than
50
graduates
annually),
while
the
University
of
Idaho
earned
top
honors
among
small
programs.
The
award,
named
for
former
ASCE
official
E.
Walter
LeFevre,
honors
programs
at
academic
institutions
that
offer
an
Engineering
Accreditation
Commission
of
ABET
accredited
civil
or
related
undergraduate
engineering
program.
Criteria
for
the
award
include
consideration
of
the
percentage
of
graduates
that
took
the
Fundamentals
of
Engineering
exam
in a
particular
academic
year
(minimum
60
percent);
the
percentage
of
those
graduates
that
passed
the
exam;
the
percentage
of
eligible
faculty
with
professional
engineering
licensure;
and
a
two-page
subjective,
narrative
evaluation
detailing
the
extent
of
the
curricula
devoted
to
licensure,
ethics
and
professionalism
and
activities
undertaken
by
the
academic
department
to
promote
these
topics.

of
ASCE.
