A project that designed a missionary compound in Trinidad and Tobago
captured first-place honors in the American Society of Civil Engineers’
senior design presentation competition as part of the recent annual ASCE
Indiana Section meeting.
This marks the 11th time in 13 years that a Rose-Hulman team has
received top marks in the competition.
The Department of Civil Engineering’s first international senior
project included a shelter for battered women, orphanage, small hospital
and soup kitchen.
Members of the winning team were Jesse Houghtalen, of Terre Haute,
Ind.; Zachary Johnson, of Elkhart, Ind.; Matthew Lovell, of Brownsburg,
Ind.; and Maria Van Houten, of Port Charlotte, Fla. Professor Kevin
Sutterer was the team’s faculty adviser. Civil Engineering Department
Chair Robert Houghtalen coordinates the senior design program. |
