Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology alumnus Fred M. Cartwright has been
appointed General Motors Europe’s vice president of alliances and new
business development.

In this new role, the 1980 mechanical engineering graduate will relocate
to Ruesselsheim, Germany, and become a member of the Opel/Vauxhall
Leadership Board. He will be responsible for the development and
maintenance of product alliances with other companies in the European
region.
He will also coordinate regional intellectual
property management, in concert with GM's global IP strategy.
Cartwright joined GM after graduating from Rose-Hulman at the Allison
Transmission Division in Indianapolis, where he advanced through several
production supervision and transmission engineering positions to become
program manager of Allison's hybrid bus program, the forerunner to GM's
two-mode hybrid system for automotive applications.
In 2003, Cartwright became director of technology planning for GM
Powertrain, followed by several leadership positions in the new business
development, intellectual property management and outside sales
activities.
Besides his bachelor’s degree from Rose-Hulman, Cartwright also has a
master¹s degree in business administration from Butler University.
