Rose-Hulman Performing Arts Series Features Dazzling Shows
Rose-Hulman
Since opening Hatfield Hall in 2002, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has used the spectacular state-of-the-art facility to attract some of the world’s grandest performing arts groups and shows to dazzle Wabash Valley residents.

The tradition will continue during the 2009-10 school year, when Rose-Hulman’s Performing Arts Series hosts world-renowned classical and popular musicians, beautiful ballet shows, dazzling Celtic-themed shows and unique Shakespeare theater presentations. There will also be entertaining science discovery shows and side-splitting comedy shows.

“We strive to bring diverse and entertaining groups to Rose-Hulman for the enjoyment of the campus and area community. This year’s nine-show lineup should be a delight to the eyes and ears,” states Bunny Nash, Rose-Hulman’s director of performing arts.

The series features classical guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, the Celtic music/dance group The StepCrew and the Moscow Festival Ballet presenting the classics “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Coppelia”, and Actors From The London Stage performing “Romeo & Juliet.”

There is a family theme to this year’s series with siblings from The 5 Browns performing on five Steinway grand pianos on stage and the family Bluegrass band Cherryholmes performing its popular Christmas show.

Tickets for the series can be ordered by mail until September 7 through a ticket request form in the series promotional brochure or by printing the ticket form from the series website (www.rose-hulman.edu/performingarts). Brochures can be requested by contacting Nash at Bunny.Nash@rose-hulman.edu or (812) 877-8875. She cautions that several shows may sell out in advance.

March 20 – 7:30 p.m.

A production by Actors From The London Stage doesn’t require elaborate costumes or massive sets to impress audiences. One of the oldest established touring Shakespeare theater companies in the world, the five professional British actors stage a production as simple as possible –- a few chairs, minimal lighting and some carefully selected props. The actors, each playing a variety of roles, rely on the inventiveness of their acting, the power of the text and the imagination of the audience to bring Shakespeare’s words to life. Actors with this truly unique program hail from such prestigious theater companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

Nash notes that making the quality of this year’s series possible has been Rose-Hulman’s Student Government Association, the Indiana Arts Commission/Arts Illiana, and corporate sponsors Rockwell Collins, First Financial Bank, Eli Lilly’s Clinton Laboratories, Terre Haute Savings Bank, J Ford’s Black Angus, WTHI-10, Duke Energy and Dever Distributing.
