Institute of Technology students have performed well on the
Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and have a 73 percent
acceptance rate to medical school. |
High-achieving Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
students with strong performances in the Medical College Admission Test,
commonly known as the MCAT, have exceeded the national average in being
accepted to medical school, according to statistics complied by Lee
Waite, head of the Department of Applied Biology and Biomedical
Engineering.
Between 2002 and 2007, students with grade point
averages about 3.4 and a MCAT score above 24 had a medical school
acceptance rate of 86 percent. Rose-Hulman’s overall acceptance rate
during that period was 73 percent –- much higher than the national
average of 48 percent.
Nineteen students were accepted to medical school during
this period. Major courses of study for these students were applied
biology (6), chemical engineering (6), mechanical engineering (5) and
biomedical engineering (2).
