Simmonds Named Partner of Indy Law Firm

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology alumnus Scott M. Simmonds
has been elected a partner in the Indianapolis office of Barnes
& Thornburg, one of the nation's largest law firms. His
appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Simmonds, a 1991 mechanical engineering graduate, is a member of
the firm's intellectual property department, where he focuses his
practice on preparing and prosecuting patent application through
the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and counseling clients on the
protection of intellectual property.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Simmonds spent 13 years
as an engineer working in the design and manufacture of medical
devices and patient handling equipment. He has an array of
experience addressing intellectual property issues over a broad
range of technologies including active wound therapy devices,
fiber-reinforced composite structures, digital image signal
processing, and various electro-mechanical devices.
Simmonds received a law degree from Indiana University School of
Law in 2004. He received a master's degree in business
administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1995. He
is a member of the Corporate IP Management Standing Committee of
the Intellectual Property Owners Association and the Executive
Committee of the IP Section of the Indianapolis Bar
Association.
Simmonds is admitted to practice law in the state of Indiana and
before the U.S. district courts for both the northern and southern
districts of Indiana. He is registered to practice before the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the American
Intellectual Property Law Association.
