Rose-Hulman alumni Michael C. Moser and Joseph R. Puthoff of Rolls-Royce’s Indianapolis manufacturing center have been recognized among the “Top 40 Under Forty” in the global aerospace and defense industry by Aviation Week & Space Technology. The list spotlights rising stars that possess an exceptional combination of great leadership skills, technical prowess, and business acumen, along with a firm conviction that “good enough” is never good enough. The publication reviewed the credentials of 200 contenders.
Moser (ME) is chief functional engineer of the AE 3007 Engine for Rolls-Royce, and has created innovative and valuable solutions to complex problems for the company. The 1997 mechanical engineering graduate led a project fielding improved operating temperature limits for one of the turbofan engines, a change that made a notable improvement in engine reliability. Previously, as a rotatives group design engineer, Moser’s work led to the low-cycle fatigue life-extension of many critical parts on one of Rolls-Royce’s gas turbine engines. He was also a member of the business process management black belt team that dramatically improved the quality of the highest scrap rate part in the Indianapolis manufacturing facility.
Puthoff, a 1999 mechanical engineering alumnus, is chief project engineer for the Trent 1000-Ten Engine. He leads a team of 130 engineers in Indianapolis with a $30 million annual budget. He has earned company awards for “outstanding planning and execution of an engineering program and superior team performance.” Puthoff led a team that delivered Federal Aviation Administration-type certification for the 250-C300/A1 engine that powers the Robinson R66 helicopter. This certificate was achieve within 24 months from program launch.
Moser and Puthoff have enjoyed their entire professional careers with Rolls-Royce.
