Tornado Expert Brings Understanding to a Curious Public
June 29, 2011

Research on the destructive forces of tornadoes conducted by
Rose-Hulman Mechanical Engineering Professor Fred Haan may lead to
recommendations on how to build stronger public buildings. This
strength is particularly geared to withstand damage from tornadoes
and other hazardous weather conditions.
Questions raised by public concern during the summer tornado season
have made Haan the focus of national, regional and local media
attention. Rose-Hulman mechanical engineering graduate
students will join Haan next month at Iowa State University to
conduct further research towards creating tornado-proof buildings.
