Learning Engineering Skills: Civil engineering students
learn a variety of skills, like surveying, that can be useful in
completing their first-year design projects. |
Freshmen civil engineering students at Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology are ready to put their innovative ideas to good use on
design projects during the spring academic quarter.
Traditionally, these projects are sponsored by local citizens and
community groups.
As freshmen, the students have limited engineering skills, but
they always show a lot of enthusiasm and creativity, and provide a
genuine service to the community. Civil Engineering
Professors John Aidoo and Jenny Mueller-Price are expecting to have
12 different projects this spring.
Typical projects include parking lot layouts, solutions for
drainage and traffic problems, simple waste treatment problems,
floor plans for small buildings, and designs for athletic fields,
playgrounds and park projects.
Each project is completed by the students in nine weeks.
The spring quarter begins on March 5.
If you are interested in offering a project for the Rose-Hulman
freshman civil engineering design program, please contact Professor
Aidoo at 812-877-8594 or send an e-mail describing your project to
aidoo@rose-hulman.edu by
