Research Projects

Often, trying some sort of research project can help you decide whether to go to graduate school, since many M.S. programs and all Ph.D. programs are based on a research project. Also, doing some research project can be a way to demonstrate to graduate schools that you have what it takes to be successful in their programs.

For projects at Rose, you can talk to various faculty around Rose to see which ones have projects that interest you. These could be during the school year or in the summer, although obviously it is easier to find time to do them in the summer.

Another avenue is to work on a research project at another place during the summer. For instance, Dr. Cornwell is heavily involved in the Los Alamos Dynamics Summer School which provides an excellent opportunity for students to do research and learn more about graduate school. Other opportunities are available through the NASA Undergraduate Research Program, the NASA Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program, Sandia National Laboratory, other national laboratories, the Undergraduate Internship Program of the Science & Technology Centers, and various Research Experience for Undergraduates programs funded by NSF.
