Statement of Purpose

-

The Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal is devoted entirely to papers written by undergraduates on topics related to mathematics. Although the author need not be an undergraduate at the time of submission or publication, the work must have been completed while the author was an undergraduate. The journal will be distributed freely in an electronic format (PDF) from the journal's web site. If funds become available later on, we will consider making paper copies available to individuals, departments of mathematics, and libraries at reasonable costs. Since the contents of the journal will provide motivation and incentive for students to study mathematics, there would be advantages to having the journal available for browsing in departmental lounges and libraries.

In order to maintain a high level of exposition, the journal uses a three-step process leading towards publication.

  1. Each paper must be sponsored by a mathematician familiar with the student's work.
  2. Each paper will be refereed anonymously by at least two sources.
  3. The editor-in-chief will make the final decision for publication.
