Richard A. Brualdi received his Ph.D. from Syracuse University (1964). He was a National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council Fellow at the National Bureau of Standards (1964-65). He has been on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1965 where he is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics. In 1986 he was the recipient of the 'Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.'

Professor Brualdi is a member of the AMS, the MAA, the SIAM, the IEEE, the International Linear Algebra Society and the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications. His research interests include matrix theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and coding theory. He is the author of the books 'Introductory Combinatorics', 'Combinatorial Matrix Theory' and 'Matrices Sign-Solvable Linear Systems'.

Steve Lalley is a member of the Department of Statistics at Purdue University. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University (1980). Prior to his present position he taught at Columbia University. His interests include probability, dynamical systems and geometry.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Undergraduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts of papers, in any area of the mathematical sciences, for presentation. Faculty are encouraged to suggest to their students that the mathematics conference at Rose-Hulman would be an appropriate place to present a talk on a topic of interest to the student.
