Health
Service
Health Services is primarily interested in the prevention of
disease and the treatment of minor injuries and acute
illnesses. The Institute maintains limited health care
services, with a nurse and a physician who keep limited office
hours on campus five days a week. A medical form sent to all
entering students requests a thorough physical examination,
history of immunizations and other background information.
These records are kept on file in the Health Services office
and are mandatory conditions of enrollment.
The Institute cannot assume responsibility for the regular
treatment of a student’s chronic condition present when the
student enters the Institute; however, the Health Service
will supervise the treatment and general health while the
student is under the care of the family physician.
Ordinarily, common medicines and drugs are furnished free.
Certain services, such as X-ray examinations, special drugs
and laboratory tests are not available. These can be
obtained off campus via orders from the Health Service.
Rose-Hulman requires all students to show evidence of up to
date immunizations, including a current TB skin test prior
to enrollment. Failure to provide this information will
prevent enrollment of next quarter’s classes. Rose-Hulman
also requires all students to either show evidence of health
insurance coverage or to purchase such insurance through the
Institute.
Counseling
The Student Counseling Center provides individual counseling
services to students faced with a broad range of issues,
such as academic stress, homesickness, relationships, family
difficulties, and career concerns, to name a few. Couples
counseling and group counseling is also provided according
to the needs of the students. Staff is available for
consultation services to students, faculty, and staff and is
willing to provide educational workshops as needed.
Counseling services are confidential and are free to all
students. Referrals are made on an as needed basis. The
staff is comprised of master’s level counselors who are
currently enrolled as second-year doctoral Counseling
Psychology students at Indiana State University. Supervision
is provided to the counselors by a licensed Counseling
Psychologist affiliated with Indiana State University.
The
Learning Center
The Learning Center, located in the lower level of the
Logan Library, offers academic assistance for any
freshman or sophomore Rose-Hulman course as well as most
upper-level classes. Peer tutors—specially trained
students supervised by professional staff—do the
majority of the tutoring at the Center, working
one-on-one with students. Professors encourage students
to participate in Learning Center programs and study
sessions.
The
Learning Center
offers services for every student:
Career
Services and Employer Relations
The Career Services Office counsels and assists graduates in
securing employment in the professions, business and
industry. It establishes contact with prospective employers,
as well as graduate schools, aids in the preparation of
applications, and arranges appointments and interviews. The
Office also assists students in obtaining part-time, summer
employment, and cooperative experiences as well as placement
upon graduation. They also assist with resume writing, cover
letters, and employer searches.
The placement record has been an outstanding one. Over 300
recruiters come to Rose-Hulman annually to offer a variety
of positions. Each Rose-Hulman graduate has several
on-campus interview opportunities and often more than one
job offer from which to choose. Graduates are currently
working in all 50 states and in 20 foreign countries.
Services are also available to alumni seeking employment.
Employers seeking experienced personnel file their job needs
with the Career Services Office, which, in turn, posts these
opportunities on the alumni web site.
Through continuous contacts with business and industry and
communications with Rose-Hulman personnel, information
regarding part-time jobs on and off campus is recorded in
the Career Services Office. Students seeking part-time
employment are encouraged to contact this office regarding
job opportunities.
The employer relations program provides a well established
career marketplace and continually strives to add new
markets for Rose-Hulman graduates. |
