Engineers Without Borders RHIT is the Rose-Hulman chapter of EWB-USA, a non-profit service organization. Our role is to supply sustainable engineering solutions in impoverished countries so that their communities can meet their basic needs. We are passionate about the projects that we work on and we envision a world where no community is deprived of basic sanitation and infrastructure.
We are currently involved in a project in the Dominican Republic, where we are building latrines in the village of Batey Santa Rosa. We have been on four implementation trips to the Dominican Republic thus far and we depart for our second trip to Batey Santa Rosa in February 2013. Other prospective projects for the future include a composting latrine build in Ghana and a water purification and distribution project in Cameroon; depending on our funding, we could begin one of these projects as early as this summer. When we are not traveling abroad, we are hard at work on local projects right here in Terre Haute! Some recent projects include building wheelchair ramps for residents of Terre Haute through the Servants At Work (SAWs) organization and designing a pedestrian bridge project in Deming Park.
As members of EWB, we not only welcome the opportunity to help others but also embrace every opportunity to develop practical engineering skills and enrich our global and cultural awareness. The experience gained from EWB projects is transformative and invaluable both to our forthcoming professional engineering careers and to those that we help.
In order for us to be able to go on these life-changing trips, we have to raise significant funds. Unfortunately, plane tickets, building supplies, and other travel expenses are expensive. We rely on kind donations and sponsorships from many sources, including small businesses and corporations. However, 75% of our funding comes from private donors like yourself!
If you would like to help fund our current and future projects, please donate to the EWB student chapter at Rose-Hulman by following the donate button at the top right corner of the screen. A donation of any amount will be of help. With a little support from generous people like yourself, we can make the world a better place.
And don’t forget to tell friends and family about EWB at Rose-Hulman!
The students of EWB and grateful project recipients.
