Melissa Thompson heads men’s and women’s swimming teams

Melissa Thompson has been named head coach of the Rose-Hulman men’s and women’s swimming programs.

Thompson won an NCAA Division I national championship as a member of the 800-freestyle relay team at Southern Methodist University in 1995 and earned All-American honors in 1994 and 1995.

"I am excited to be named the head swimming coach at Rose-Hulman. This will give me a good opportunity to learn from the students, and give them an opportunity to learn from me," said Thompson.

Thompson will gain her first coaching experience this season at Rose-Hulman. She earned four varsity letters at Southern Methodist, where she claimed a Southwest Conference championship in 1995.

Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Southern Methodist in 1995 before completing a master’s program in social work at Indiana University in 1997.

Thompson is married to Terre Haute South Vigo High School head swimming coach Jeff Thompson and is the mother of infant daughter Emily. She began her swimming career as a member of the Terre Haute Aquatic Club and established five school records as a freshman at South Vigo High School.
