Mens soccer enjoys best season since 95
The Rose-Hulman mens soccer squad won seven matches for the first time since 1995
and finished seventh in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with 7-10
overall record under head coach Greg Ruark.
Junior John Fell led the squad with eight goals, with junior Grant Hoffman contributing
seven assists. Senior Kyle Kindle scored the game winning goal in three consecutive
matches to propel the Engineers to a 6-5 record midway through the season.
Freshmen goalkeepers Ryan Posey and Al Ruth combined for 125 saves and posted a shutout
against Manchester, while senior defender Harold Plance earned team Most Valuable Player
honors to highlight the teams defensive efforts.
Cross country update
The Rose-Hulman mens and womens cross country team placed seventh and eighth
in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, respectively, to highlight
their fall season accomplishments.
Freshman Kenny Diehl ran the fastest time for the mens squad in every race this
season, including a season-best effort of 28:50 at the NCAA III Mens Cross Country
Regional at Hanover College. Sophomore Rich Hale emerged as the teams second-most
consistent runner after battling an early season injury.
Freshman Elizabeth Emborsky provided an immediate lift for the womens squad, setting
a meet record 20:09 to earn an individual championship at Principia College. Senior Alyson
Tews finished her career as a four-year letter winner, while junior Becky Myers provided
veteran leadership for the third consecutive season.
Womens soccer wins seven
The Rose-Hulman womens soccer team went 7-10-1 this fall and improved upon each
school record established in the programs inaugural season of 1999. .
Freshman Jessica Farmer provided an immediate lift with a program record 13 goals and two
assists for 28 points to earn the teams Newcomer of the Year award. Farmer scored
the first hat trick in program history against Millsaps and scored two goals in three
other contests.
Seniors Meg Lyman and Juliana Van Winkle shared leadership and on-field responsibilities
to earn co-Most Valuable Player awards. Lyman set a program record with 182 saves, while
Van Winkle contributed seven goals and three assists to a squad that earned two SCAC
victories and defeated crosstown rival Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
