Cahill new alumni president; Dinkel re-elected as alumni trustee rep
Four alumni have been elected or appointed to key volunteer positions representing the
Rose-Hulman Alumni Association.
Pat Cahill (67, CE) presided over his first alumni board meeting in December as the
associations new president.
Alumni have re-elected Tom Dinkel (72, ME) to serve as one of two alumni
representatives to the Rose-Hulman Board of Trustees. Fred Clayton, (70, CE) also
serves as an alumni representative to the board.
Elected to be the new vice president of the Rose-Hulman Alumni Association is Robert
Schacht, (72, CE).
Cahill was vice president last year. He takes over from Roger Ward (71, Bio) who
completed his term as alumni association president in October.
Roger did an outstanding job as president, stated Brian Dyer, director of
alumni affairs and special events. He encouraged new ideas about ways the alumni
office can expand services for Rose-Hulman graduates.
Cahill has served as a class agent for nearly 15 years, and was a member of the Commission
on the Future of Rose-Hulman. He has been an active member of the Wabash Valley Alumni
Club, and assisted the alumni office staff with homecoming event coordination this year.
Cahill is president of Terre Haute-based Wabash Valley Asphalt Co.
Schacht is vice president and chief operating officer of Northern Indiana Public Service
Co. Schacht received the Rose-Hulman Honor Alumnus Award in 1989 for his outstanding
contributions as a volunteer to the alumni association. He has served as a class agent for
more than 25 years and served two terms as president of the North Indiana Rose-Hulman
Alumni Club.
Dinkel is president of Sycamore Engineering in Terre Haute. He has received the Honor
Alumni Award for his outstanding volunteer work on behalf of the alumni association. He
served in numerous alumni volunteer posts.
Appointed as the new secretary-treasurer of the association is Fred Goetsch (57,
EE). Goetsch replaces Bob Steinhauser who served for 35 years as secretary-treasurer.
Goetsch has been chairman of the awards and recognition committee of the Rose-Hulman
Alumni Advisory Board.
