Four receive Honor Alumnus Award


Four alumni who have helped Rose-Hulman in a variety of volunteer activities received the Rose-Hulman Alumni Association Honor Alumnus Award during Homecoming activities Oct. 6-7. Honored were Darrin Davidson (’86), Jim Gates (’61), Kevin Forbes (’85), and Denis Radecki (’72).

Davidson has assisted with the establishment of a new program in the Chicago area to increase alumni involvement in the recruitment of future Rose-Hulman students. He has also helped the Rose-Hulman Career Services Office create 10 internships each year for Rose-Hulman students at General Electric. Darrin has also been a guest lecturer in the college and life skills class for freshmen. Davidson is senior director for consumer products for General Electrical Capital Corp. in Barrington, Illinois.

Gates has helped Rose-Hulman in its strategic planning, and he has been an effective ambassador to enhance Rose-Hulman's reputation with Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. He has been a member of the Rose-Hulman Commission on the Future and a long-time member of the college's National Board of Advisors. He serves as a member of the Corporate Steering Committee for the Vision to be the Best campaign.

Forbes, who has earned an international reputation as Director of Engineering and Construction for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has created professional opportunities for students, served often as a guest speaker in civil engineering classes and at several alumni events. Forbes was the class sponsor for the 2000 Senior Class Give Back fund-raising program. He has been a reunion class chair and sponsor of civil engineering student projects. Forbes has been the guest speaker at the Rose-Hulman National Engineers Week program for high-school students.

Radecki, who owns his own structural design and analysis consulting firm, has been president of the Rose-Hulman Wabash Valley Alumni Club, and currently serves on the Rose-Hulman Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee. He has been a guest lecturer in consulting engineering classes and is an alumni class agent. Radecki Engineering has sponsored several computer science and electrical engineering student projects. For nearly 20 years, he has recruited Rose-Hulman alumni to help coordinate Indiana MATHCOUNTS, which is affiliated with a national contest to encourage young students to improve their mathematics skills. Radecki graduated in 1972 from Rose-Hulman with a degree in mathematics.
