The Indianapolis Colts will hold their 1999 training camp at Rose-Hulman from July 22 to Aug. 20. The agreement culminates a lengthy negotiation process between the National Football League franchise and the college. "This is an exciting day for the local community and our school," President Samuel Hulbert said. "The Colts summer camp should bring thousands of new visitors to campus and to Terre Haute. The campus popularity will have a positive impact on the local economy and create national visibility for Rose-Hulman and Terre Haute." The Colts will use two football practice fields located east of Phil Brown Field. In addition, the team will utilize the new Sports and Recreation Center. The 156,000-square-foot facility includes a weight room, sports medicine complex and field house. The Colts also will use the recently constructed Cook Stadium, the colleges football complex. The players will stay in the upperclass residence halls on the west side of campus. The Colts have trained at Anderson University since the franchise moved to Indianapolis in 1984. |
