Lopez receives national award as outstanding mathematics teacher



 

    Professor Robert Lopez was honored in June as one of the nation’s best mathematics teachers. Lopez was cited for his outstanding teaching and ability to inspire students to high levels of accomplishment.
    Lopez was named the first recipient of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Mathematics Division Distinguished Educator and Service Award. ASEE also cited Lopez for improving education through contributions to textbooks, research and presentations that have a lasting impact on engineering and mathematics teaching.
    Lopez has contributed to five textbooks, he has taught nearly 50 workshops, and has been an invited speaker at 40 different conferences or seminars. He helped originate the use of computer algebra systems in the teaching of calculus at Rose-Hulman more than a decade ago.
