Fall 1999

Commencement '99

    This year’s graduating class was unique in at least two ways. It included the first group of women students to complete four years of study at Rose-Hulman, and it was the largest graduating class in school history. Nearly 60 women earned bachelor’s degrees among the 377 graduates who received a bachelor’s. or master’s degree from Rose-Hulman President Samuel Hulbert during ceremonies May 29 in the Sports and Recreation Center. The class of 1999 had a graduation rate of 78% of the students who entered four years ago as freshmen. The percentage was the second best at Rose-Hulman in the past 21 years.
Honorary degrees were presented to;
    * William Bannon, long-time Terre Haute physician and a member of the Rose-Hulman Health Center staff;
    * Ronald Dollens, president and chief executive officer, Guidant Corp. in Indianapolis;
