Ruark promoted to athletic director;
Mollet picked to lead football team

    Rose-Hulman has promoted men’s and women’s head soccer coach and intramural director Greg Ruark to the position of athletic director, and named defensive coordinator Russ Mollet the school’s 13th head football coach.
    Ruark, who retains both soccer head coaching positions, has coached Rose-Hulman’s men’s soccer team for the past 11 seasons. He has coached the women’s soccer club team for the past two seasons and saw double duty as the school’s varsity women’s soccer coach this fall.
    Ruark, 40, led the Engineers’ men’s soccer program to three second-place finishes in its last five years in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference. He also led Rose-Hulman to its first winning season in 11 years in 1993, earning ICAC Co-Coach of the Year honors.
    “The athletic department attempts to be a part of the overall experience for Rose-Hulman student-athletes. We try to accomplish this in a highly competitive Division III atmosphere, teaching lessons that will help our students throughout their lives,” said Ruark.
    Ruark gained previous experience as an athletic director and soccer coach at Carlisle School in Martinsville, Va., from 1983-88. He enjoyed a standout soccer career at Ball State University, scoring 36 goals and earning the nod as team captain in 1980.
    Ruark earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Ball State in 1981 and a master’s from DePauw University in 1983.
    Mollet has been Rose-Hulman’s defensive coordinator and assistant track and field coach for the past 11 seasons. His football responsibilities have included strength and conditioning coordination, arranging team travel plans, maintaining weight equipment, and recruiting nationally. Mollet has served the track and field squad as an assistant in charge of throwing events.
    Mollet, 47, previously coached at Washington University (Mo.) from 1986-88 as defensive coordinator and assistant baseball coach. He coached at Southwest Missouri State University from 1982-86.
    “I have been fortunate to be involved with solid academic institutions in my football coaching career. It’s an honor to work at a school like Rose-Hulman,” said Mollet.
    Mollet earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Southwest Missouri State in 1975, then earned a master’s degree in physical education at Western Illinois University in 1985. Mollet played football at Southwest Missouri State as a walk-on, and would play 37 of 40 games during his career.
