The systems that generate, transmit and supply electrical energy to consumers are becoming more and more complex. They have to maintain a reliable supply of power, at an economic cost, while observing stringent environmental limits.
This class provides an introduction to generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy. Upon successful completion, you will be able to perform basic power system analysis that will enable you take up an entry-level position with such companies as electric utilities, consulting engineers, electrical equipment manufacturers, and large consumers. It will also prepare you for follow-on courses such as ECE471 (Industrial Power Systems), ECE472 (Power Systems II), and ECE571 (Control of Power Systems).
