2005 Career Achievement Award
Mark Federle,
Chief Information Officer, The Weitz
Company
Mark Federle has the unique perspective of serving both industry
and academia, allowing him to advise both entities about their
strengths and limitations, thus allowing them to work together more
effectively. A former award-winning college professor at Iowa State
University, Federle left academics to work for The Weitz Company, an
employee-owned company that's currently the 19th largest building
contractor in the nation with revenues surpassing $1 billion in
2004. He has directed efforts to change how the company used
technology to better serve its clients and employees - despite
having no information technology training. He continues to serve
higher education as a member of the Associated General Contractors
of America Construction Education Committee, and is chair of the
national student competition sub-committee. Federle remains close
with Rose-Hulman as a class agent, member of the Department of Civil
Engineers' Board of Advisors and helping students obtain summer
internships in the construction industry. |
