The major thrust of the
Rose-Hulman co-op program is educational. The goal is to provide the student
with an opportunity to gain hands-on, discipline-specific experience to
complement and supplement classroom theoretical instruction. Students do not
receive academic credit for our co-op program, and are prepared to engage in
stimulating full-time work. Upon completing their work tours, it is
conceivable that a student could have up to eighteen months of on-the-job
experience.
By its very nature,
cooperative education is the cooperation between a school, a company and the
student to insure that the student will gain an opportunity to actually put
into practice what they have learned in a classroom setting, and
simultaneously make a contribution to the company where employed. The
company gains the opportunity to train an employee in the way it wants the
job done as
well
as assist in the preparation of tomorrow's engineers. The school insures
that its students are receiving the theoretical and practical education that
will render the quality of graduates for which schools strive.
