Volleyball Falls to Wittenberg in NCAA Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. -- The best season in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball history came to in an end with a 25-15, 25-10, 25-11 loss to eventual national champion Wittenberg University in the NCAA Division III Tournament in November.

Rose-Hulman completed the season with a 24-9 record and established single-season school records for victories and winning percentage in the 2011 campaign.

The Fightin' Engineers also won their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships, while also capturing the program's 200th victory during a landmark season.

Senior Morgan Williams (Fenton, Mich./Powers Catholic) and junior Anna Lewer (Indianapolis/Lutheran) had four kills each to lead the offense against one of the nation's top ranked defensive teams. 

Senior Leah Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added team-highs of 10 digs and eight assists.  Senior Karah Hickman (Hobart) led the squad with four block assists, with Lewer contributing three block assists and Pelzel two.

Wittenberg improved to 32-3 on the season and will face No. 9 ranked Heidelberg in the second round of the tournament on Friday.
