746-acad-districtTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Two members of the Rose-Hulman volleyball team captured Capital One academic all-district honors in results released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Junior Anna Lewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) and senior Leah Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) were chosen to the second-team NCAA Division III academic all-district seven squad.

Lewer has earned first-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors for three consecutive years and was named HCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player last week.  She has compiled 873 career kills with 1,089 digs, 147 blocks and 92 service aces as a Fightin' Engineer.

Lewer also led Rose-Hulman in kils (308) and digs (389) this season and recorded 14 double-doubles in terms of kills and digs this season.

In the classroom, the biomedical engineering major is a Dean's List honoree, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honorary fraternity, the Society of Women Engineers and the Chi Omega sorority.

Pelzel ranks in Rose-Hulman's career top five in assists (3rd with 2,483), service aces (3rd with 202) and digs (4th with 1,577).  She is the first Fightin' Engineer to earn multiple academic all-district accolades and captured second-team all-league honors this fall.

Her efforts this season include team-highs of 733 assists and 72 service aces, along with 374 digs, 155 kills and 57 blocks.

In the classroom, the biomedical engineering major is a member of four campus honor fraternities, the career fair team, the biomedical engineering society and the Chi Omega sorority.

Rose-Hulman stands 24-8 on the season and will square off against No. 5 ranked Wittenberg University today (Nov. 10) in the NCAA Division III Tournament at Calvin College in Michigan.  Complete coverage is available at www.rose-hulman.edu/sports.
