TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) has been named the inaugural Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week in results released by the league office.
Dangel helped Rose-Hulman finish a perfect 4-0 and win the Illinois College Invitational to kick off the 2012 season last weekend. She also earned a spot on the event's all-tournament team for her efforts.
Dangel recorded 71 digs for a 5.07 average per set from the back row. Her efforts also included seven assists and one service ace.
She also captured the first HCAC Defensive Player of the Week award in league history, as the conference coaches have implemented the new award for the 2012 season.
Rose-Hulman stands 4-0 on the season and returns to action at Greenville College on Wednesday.
