levitt-killDEFIANCE, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned a key four-set Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball victory at Defiance College on Sunday.

Rose-Hulman topped the Yellow Jackets 17-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-12 to secure a top-four finish in the HCAC regular season standings.  The top two seeds will receive a first round bye in the HCAC Tournament, and the third and fourth seeds will host first round matches on Oct. 30.

Senior Anna Lewer (Indianapolis/Lutheran) led the Engineer offense with 17 kills and also had 16 digs.  Junior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) contributed 13 kills and 10 digs, with freshman Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwestern) adding 11 kills, 23 assists and nine digs.

Junior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) paced the squad with 21 digs, and junior Kira Boswell (Ames, Iowa) had a team-high 26 assists.

Serving was a key reason for the Rose-Hulman victory.  The Fightin' Engineers tallied 14 total service aces, including nine by Levitt to rank third in a match in school history.

Rose-Hulman improved to 17-8 overall and 6-2 in HCAC play, while Defiance stands 16-12 overall and 5-3 in league matches.  The Fightin' Engineers host Earlham in the final HCAC regular season match of the season on Wednesday at Hulbert Arena.
