Rose-Hulman Volleyball Holds Off Anderson


levitt-digTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology withstood a rally from Anderson University to earn a five-set win in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball opener on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena.

Rose-Hulman won the first two sets 25-15, 25-21, before Anderson earned 25-20 and 25-23 wins.  The Fightin' Engineers battled to a 15-12 win in the fifth and deciding set.

Freshman Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) recorded her third triple-double of the season to lead the Fightin' Engineers.  Jensen had 14 kills, 15 digs and pitched in with 26 assists. 

Junior Kira Boswell (Ames, Iowa) led the squad with 27 assists.  Junior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) led the Fightin' Engineers with 19 kills and 22 digs. 

Senior Anna Lewer (Indianapolis/Lutheran) pitched in with 13 kills, 21 digs and two blocks.  Junior Catherine Fiutem (Harrison, Ohio/Oldenburg Academy) smashed 11 kills with five blocks. 

Senior Erika McGuire (Indianapolis/Warren Central) contributed a team-high two service aces.

Rose-Hulman improved to 11-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Anderson dropped to 7-11 and 1-1 in league matches.  The Fightin' Engineers host Transylvania and Principia on Saturday.
