Track & Field Earns 16 All-HCAC Outdoor Awards

evans-acTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned two special awards and 16 student-athletes captured outdoor track and field all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors in results released by the league office. 

Senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) was crowned the HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year for the sixth time in her career, and Larry Cole was named Men's Head Coach of the Year.

Evans set a conference record in the high jump (5' 10 1/2") and also won the long jump (17' 10 1/4") to help bolster Rose-Hulman's finish.  She also ran as part of the victorious 4-x-100 meter relay team and a school record setting 4-x-400 relay squad.

Cole received his 12th career conference Coach of the Year award and his 10th in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.  Members of the coaching staff included sprints, jumps and hurdles coach Matthew Cole, throws coach Christy Sherman and student assistant Zack Howe.

Rose-Hulman claimed eight men's first-team all-HCAC awards.  Student-athletes earning individual league titles included senior Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) in the 400-meter dash (48.58 seconds) and senior Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) in the men's pole vault (14' 11 1/2").

The men's track and field squad relied on a sweep in the 4-x-100 and 4-x-400 meter relays to add five more award winners to the first-team all-league squad.  The 4-x-100 meter squad included senior Jeremiah Edwards (Indianapolis/Lawrence North), junior Clay Becker (Gaylord, Mich./St. Mary Cathedral), senior Travis Stallings (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) and sophomore Jake Kelley (Tecumseh, Mich.) with a time of 43.09 seconds.

The 4-x-400 meter squad included Stallings, Kelley, freshman Tyler Duffy (Fishers/Hamilton Southeastern) and Hannan in a time of 3:19.30 that ranks fifth in school history.

On the women's side, the Fightin' Engineers captured five first-team all-league awards.  The effort included two conference records among five event wins.  Senior Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville) won the 400-meter dash with a league and school record time of 57.67 seconds.  Evans also captured the high jump and long jump titles.

Senior Tanya Colonna (Brecksville, Ohio) won the pole vault with a leap of 11' 0 1/4", and the 4-x-100 meter relay team of Clauser, Evans, senior Gloria Boxell (Zionsville/Covenant Christian) and junior Erin Cox (West Harrison/Franklin County) claimed the title in a school record time of 49.59 to earn spots on the all-conference squad.

The men's squad also earned two second-place all-conference awards.   Senior Trey Cahill (Auburn/DeKalb) was runner-up in the hammer throw (170' 10") and senior Greg Larmore (Deerfield, Ill.) placed second in the discus throw (143' 8") to earn all-league honors. 

On the women's side, junior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadia) was a second-team all-conference honoree after running a 1,500-meter time of 4:50.57 for second-place honors.

In addition, Clauser was joined by junior Andrew Thompson (Mundelin, Ill./Vernon Hills) on the HCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with individuals competing at the Indiana University Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday night.
