TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Senior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal Acadiana) will represent Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships this weekend.
Montgomery will compete in the women's mile, after qualifying 15th overall with a time of 4:59.65 at Indiana University in February. Her breakthrough season has also included Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships in six-kilometer cross country, the indoor mile run, and the indoor 3,000-meter run.
The NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships will take place at the University of Nebraska, with Nebraska Wesleyan University as the host. Preliminary competition in the mile takes place at 1:45 p.m. Central Time on Friday, with the finals slated for 1:40 p.m. Central Time on Saturday.
Montgomery makes her second appearance at NCAA Division III National Championship competition this year. In the fall, she placed 71st out of 280 runners at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships after placing third individually in the Great Lakes Regional.
Her efforts include school and conference records in both the mile and 3,000-meter runs this season. She becomes the second Fightin' Engineer female to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships and the first running event participant, joining five-time high jump national champion Liz Evans.
