TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal Acadiana) came home 17th in the women's mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday afternoon.
Montgomery ran a time of 5:12.81 to place 17th nationally in the event held at the University of Nebraska.
The effort marked Montgomery's second appearance in NCAA Division III National Championship competition this season. She placed 71st out of 280 runners at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships after placing third individually in the Great Lakes Regional.
Montgomery's season so far has included Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships in six-kilometer cross country, the indoor mile run, and the indoor 3,000-meter run.
Her efforts include school and conference records in both the mile and 3,000-meter runs this season. She became the second Fightin' Engineer female to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships and the first running event participant, joining five-time high jump national champion Liz Evans.
