TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's track and field teams will compete for top honors in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday at Anderson University.
The men's track and field team looks for its fourth consecutive HCAC Indoor Championship in the fourth year of the event. The Fightin' Engineers have also won six consecutive conference outdoor championships entering the 2014 calendar year.
The men's squad also enters the HCAC Championships ranked No. 28 in the USTFCCCA Dual Meet National Rankings and is No. 6 in the Great Lakes Region in the organization's weekly rankings.
The women's squad also looks to continue a tradition of excellence since the event's inception in 2011. The Fightin' Engineers have one women's conference championship and two runner-up finishes in three previous years of the event.
Rose-Hulman looks to rely on its men's depth in the battle for the league championship. The Fightin' Engineers have the top performance in the conference this year in six of the 17 indoor events. Rose-Hulman's men also compiled an overall team record of 41-2 against intercollegiate competition this winter.
On the women's side, senior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery ranks No. 10 nationally in the mile and No. 11 in the 3,000-meter run entering the HCAC Championships.
The championships will be held at the Anderson University Kardatzke Wellness Center on Saturday (Feb. 22) with the first events beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is $6 per person, with senior citizens and students $5. HCAC students are admitted free with proper identification.
