TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Two Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology track and field student-athletes earned Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors in
results released by the league office.
Junior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) was
named HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while sophomore
Stuart West (La Porte) captured league Men's Track
Athlete of the Week accolades.
Evans led the Fightin' Engineers with two victories and two
school record performances at the DePauw Invitational on Friday
night. She captured top honors in the triple jump (35' 6
1/2") and placed third in the long jump (17' 6 3/4") to set school
records, and earned a victory in the high jump with a leap of 5' 8
West won the 800-meter run in a time of 1:57.19 to
record the fourth fastest time in Rose-Hulman history at the DePauw
Invitational. His performance helped Rose-Hulman win the meet
by 3.5 points over nationally ranked Wabash, and marked the fastest
time in the HCAC so far this season.
The men's squad entered last week ranked No. 12 in the nation by
the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association. Rose-Hulman returns to action at Monmouth
College on Saturday afternoon.
