BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded four top-10 finishes against primarily NCAA Division I competition at the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University on Saturday.
Senior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) led the performance with a sixth-place finish and a school record time of 10:26.59 in the 3,000-meter run. Sophomore Addie Johnson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) added a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.93) to provide depth to the women's performance.
On the men's side, junior Austin Schulthies (Dubois, Ind./Northeast Dubois) paced Rose-Hulman with finishes of 10th in the javelin (156' 5") and 12th in the discus (139' 0"). Freshman Andrew Okruch (Mount Washington, Ky./Bullitt East) contributed a 10th in the shot put (45' 10") and a 20th in the discus (131' 11").
Senior Andy Hunkeler (Kokomo, Ind./Northwestern) pitched in with three top 20 finishes. Hunkeler came home 12th in the shot put (45' 3 1/2"), 13th in the discus (138' 11") and 18th in the hammer throw (147' 10"). Junior Zac Erba (Warsaw, Ind./Winona Lake) rounded out the throwing events with a 14th place in the hammer (158' 11").
Junior Blake Schulthies (Dubois, Ind./Northeast Dubois) had the top running event performance with a 17th place in the 400-meter hurdles (55.73). Other competitors included senior Nathan Catt (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) in the 1,500 (4:02.44), freshman Brendon Mattiuz (Fishers, Ind.) in the 800 (1:57.29) and junior Stuart West (La Porte) in the 1,500-meters (4:04.72).
Selected individuals will compete again next weekend at a site to be determined.
