TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded seven first-place finishes and two school records at the Fightin' Engineer Twilight Track and Field Invitational on Friday night at Cook Stadium.
The effort helped the Rose-Hulman men win the overall team scoring in the 11-team meet. The women's team came home with a fifth place overall finish.
The men's squad captured four individual first-place honors to lead the performance. Winners included seniors Trey Cahill (Auburn/DeKalb) in the hammer throw (181' 11"); Andrew Daw (Klamath Falls, Ore./Mazama) in the javelin (158' 7"); Travis Stallings (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) in the 400-meter hurdles (54.55); and Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) in the 400-meter dash (50.37 seconds).
The men's 4-x-400 meter relay team added a victory in the final race of the night. Team members included freshman Tyler Duffy (Fishers/Hamilton Southeastern), Stallings, sophomore Jake Kelley (Tecumseh, Mich.) and Hannan with a time of 3:20.49.
On the women's side, junior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal Acadia) set a new school record to win the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:36.80. Senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) also captured top honors in the high jump (5' 7").
The women's 4-x-400 meter relay squad added the final school record of the night with a time of 4:07.35. Team members of the record setting relay included senior Gloria Boxell (Zionsville/Covenant Christian), junior Erin Cox (West Harrison/Franklin County), senior Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville/Southmont) and freshman Addie Johnson (Caledonia, Mich./Catholic Central).
The men's team added five second-place finishes. Senior Jeremiah Edwards (Indianapolis/Lawrence North) led the effort with second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11.08) and 200-meter dash (22.31).
Other runner-ups included senior Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) in the pole vault (15' 1"); senior Michael Dickerson (Greenfield/Central) in the 400-meter hurdles (57.79); and junior Peter Lokken (Waukesha, Wis./Pewakee) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:55.44).
The men's and women's 4-x-100 meter relay teams also came home second for the Fightin' Engineers. The men ran a time of 43.47 seconds, with the women compiling a time of 51.59 seconds.
Senior Greg Larmore (Deerfield, Ill.) pitched in with third-place finishes in the hammer (170' 11") and javelin (149' 8"). Other third-place finishers included sophomore Stuart West (La Porte) came home third in the 1,500-meter run (4:08.91), while Dickerson was third in the 110-hurdles (15.31). Freshman Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) had a third-place finish for the women with a javelin throw of 92' 4".
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Manchester University next weekend.
