HANOVER, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded eight first-place and six runner-up efforts to place second on the men's side and third in the women's competition at Hanover on Saturday.
Senior Trey Cahill (Auburn/DeKalb) (pictured) led the performance with a school record in the hammer throw. Cahill's toss of 174' 3" breaks the record held by NCAA Division III All-American Nathan Subbert and was also a Hanover Invitational record.
Junior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal-Acadia) added the second fastest 1,500-meter time in school history to lead the women's effort. Montgomery completed the event in a time of 4:52.10.
Senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) won two events on the day to bolster the women's team score. Evans earned top honors in the high jump (5' 8") and the long jump (17' 2").
Other individual winners included senior Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville/Southmont) in the 400-meter dash (59.03 seconds); senior Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) in the pole vault (15' 0 1/4"); and senior Travis Stallings (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) in the long jump (21' 2 3/4").
The men's 4-x-400 meter relay team also brought home top honors to cap the meet. The team of Stallings, sophomore Blake Schulthies (Dubois/Northeast Dubois), sophomore Stuart West (La Porte) and senior Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) ran a time of 3:24.50.
The team performance also included six runner-up efforts. Senior Andrew Daw (Klamath Falls, Ore./Mazama) and senior Greg Larmore (Deerfield, Ill.) led the way with throwing event runner-up marks. Daw tossed the javelin 157' 8 1/2" and Larmore had a hammer throw of 166' 0 1/2".
Hannan added a 400-meter dash time of 49.34 seconds, and freshman Mallory McDevitt (Wapakoneta, Ohio) placed second in the women's pole vault (9' 6").
The women's 4-x-100 meter and 4-x-400 meter relay teams also came home second. The team of senior Gloria Boxell (Zionsville/Covenant Christian), junior Erin Cox (West Harrison/Franklin County), Clauser and Evans ran a 4-x-100 time of 49.93 seconds. The 4-x-400 squad featured freshman Addie Johnson (Caledonia, Mich./Catholic Central), Boxell, junior Katherine Moravec (Seymour) and Clauser in a time of 4:13.88.
Rose-Hulman returns to action next Saturday at the Bellarmine University Invitational.
