Liz Evans Sets NCAA High Jump National Record

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) set a new NCAA Division III all-time record in the outdoor high jump on Saturday to lead the Fightin' Engineer effort at Bellarmine University.

Evans, who tied a 14-year national record earlier this season, cleared 1.82 meters or 5' 11 1/2" to set a new NCAA mark.  She previously cleared 5' 11 1/4" to match the mark set by Kristy Laramee of Middlebury and Maria Megnin of Hartwick at the 1999 NCAA Division III National Championships.

Three other Fightin' Engineers enjoyed strong performances early on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Trey Cahill (Auburn/DeKalb) set a Rose-Hulman school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 180' 4".  Junior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal of Acadiana) set a new school record in the 1,500-meters by running a time of 4:46.18 to place third in the event.  Senior Travis Stallings (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added a strong second-place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.37 seconds that ranks fourth in school history.

Four other Fightin' Engineers placed in the top eight in their events.  Senior Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) came home third in the pole vault with a leap of 15' 5".  Sophomore Ryan Meyer (Greenwood/Center Grove) was seventh in the 3,000-steeplechase (10:12.10), senior Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) placed seventh in the 400-meter dash (49.47), and freshman Kevin Mauser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) came home eighth in the 5,000-meter run (16:11.55).
