FRANKLIN, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded nine top-three finishes and one school record at the Indiana Division III Championships at Franklin College on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers compiled the strong performance despite much of its team staying home to take the Fundamentals of Engineering National Examination.
Senior Trey Cahill (Auburn/DeKalb) set a school record in the hammer throw for the third consecutive week with a toss of 185' 9" to earn first-place honors and lead the Fightin' Engineers.
Junior Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadia) added a victory in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:52.98.
Senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) rounded out the day's winners by capturing the high jump with a leap of 5' 8 3/4".
Rose-Hulman added two runner-up finishes on the day. Evans came home second in the triple jump with a leap of 34' 9 1/2", and senior Greg Larmore (Deerfield, Ill.) completed a one-two sweep of the hammer with a throw of 166' 8".
Third-place finishers included Larmore in the discus throw (137' 2"); senior Jeremiah Edwards (Indianapolis/Lawrence North) in the 100-meter dash (11.11 seconds); senior Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) in the 400-meter dash (50.52 seconds); and sophomore Stuart West (La Porte) in the 1,500-meters (4:15.45).
The Fightin' Engineers return to action with the annual Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on Friday night at the William Welch Track and Field Complex.
