Six School Records Fall in Banner Day at DePauw


GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes combined for six school records and 13 top-five performances in a banner day at the 13-team DePauw University Invitational on Saturday.

Two relay teams earned first-place honors as part of school record setting efforts.  The distance medley relay team of junior Micah Aldrich (Indianapolis/Warren Central), sophomore Brent Austgen (Cedar Lake/Hanover Central), freshman Andrew Thompson (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) and senior Derek Bischak (Angola) set a new mark with a time of 10:26.03 to break a 30-year old school record.

The 4-x-400 meter relay team of Austgen, senior Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central), freshman Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) and junior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va.) also topped the prior school record with a winning time of 3:23.50 to defeat Vincennes, Indiana State and Wabash.

Individual school record performances included junior Jeremiah Edwards (Indianapolis/Lawrence North) (pictured) with a runner-up finish in the 55-meter dash (6.51 seconds); sophomore Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville/Southmont) with a time of 1:00.78 in the 400-meter dash; and sophomore Tanya Colonna (Brecksville, Ohio) with a pole vault leap of 10' 6".

The women's 4-x-400 meter relay team of freshman Christina Moravec (Seymour), freshman Katherine Moravec (Seymour), freshman Erin Cox (West Harrison/Franklin County) and Clauser added the final school record with a time of 4:13.16.

Sophomore Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) reached the NCAA Division III automatic qualifying mark for the third time this season with a high jump leap of 5' 7 1/4" to defeat a field of 21 competitors that included four NCAA Division I athletes.

Other event winners for Rose-Hulman included Coleman in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.57 seconds for the fifth best mark in school history, and senior Tyler Kreipke (Zionsville) with a time of 8:51.76 in the 3,000 meters that ranks third in school history.

Sophomore Chris Good (Bloomington/Edgewood) added a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6' 2".  Sophomore Michael Johnson (Indianapolis/Franklin Central) contributed a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.37.

Fifth-place finishers for the Engineers included junior Warren Condra (Ventura, Calif./Foothill Tech) in the mile run with a time of 4:36.54, and sophomore Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) with a pole vault leap of 13' 9 1/4".

On the women's side, senior Katherine Quigg (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) came home fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:57.25.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Grinnell College Invitational in Iowa next Saturday.
