McCollum-ac2TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team battled to a narrow 5-4 victory over previously undefeated Transylvania University on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers won two of three doubles matches and claimed victories at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions to top last season's defending conference runner-ups.

Freshman Kylie McCollum (Lee's Summit, Mo./West) played a key role with wins in the deciding No. 6 singles match and a tiebreaker win at No. 3 doubles with sophomore Lauren Reberger (Brazil/Northview).

The doubles tandem of sophomore Marie Stettler (Edgerton, Wis./Senior) and Paige Cook (Terre Haute/North) captured a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Singles winner included McCollum at the No. 6 position by a 6-2, 6-4 margin; Cook at No. 5 singles by a 6-0, 6-1 count; and sophomore Colleen Stevenson (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional) with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Rose-Hulman improved to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Transylvania stands 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference matches.  The Fightin' Engineers travel to Mount St. Joseph on Sunday.
