FRANKLIN, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Franklin College battled in a four-hour women's tennis marathon before the Fightin' Engineers claimed a 5-4 victory in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.
Rose-Hulman took the early lead by winning two of three doubles matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The two teams then split the six singles matches, allowing Rose-Hulman to avenge regular season and conference tournament losses to Franklin from the 2012-13 campaign.
Junior Suzana Mohd (Puchong, Malaysia/Mara University) led the effort by winning at the No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles positions. Mohd teamed with senior Marie Stettler (Edgerton, Wis./Senior) for the doubles victory. The tandem of freshman Sydney Short (Langley, Va./Grafton) and senior Lauren Reberger (Brazil/Northview) added a No. 3 victory.
In singles play, senior Paige Cook (Terre Haute/North) won at the No. 3 position, and junior Kylie McCollum (Lee's Summit, Mo./West) added a three-set win at the No. 5 spot.
Rose-Hulman improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in HCAC play, while Franklin dropped to 3-3 and 2-1 in league matches. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Manchester University on Saturday.
