Becerra-2INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology reached the semifinal round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament before falling 5-2 to Earlham on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman previously defeated Mount St. Joseph 5-1 in the quarterfinal round earlier in the day.

The historic season featured Rose-Hulman's first regular season conference championship in men's tennis and the team's 14th consecutive season with a .500 or above record at 10-8.

Against Mount St. Joseph, singles winners for the Engineers included senior David Becerra (Brownsburg/Covenant Christian) (pictured) at the No. 2 spot, senior Seth Hendrickson (Crawfordsville) at the No. 4 position, and senior Brent Frizzell (Avon) at No. 6.

The doubles tandem of Becerra and Hendrickson contributed a No. 2 doubles victory by an 8-0 margin.  The No. 3 doubles team of Fritz and senior Alex Gumz (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) added an 8-2 victory.

In the Earlham match, Becerra and Hendrickson capped their careers with a 9-8 victory at No. 2 doubles.  Hendrickson added his 54th career win, ranking second on the college's all-time list, by earning a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
