Hendrickson1TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the men's tennis season with a 5-4 victory over Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

Senior Seth Hendrickson (Crawfordsville) (pictured)  captured the deciding match at the No. 5 singles spot by a 6-4, 7-5 margin to secure the victory.

Senior Dallas Burton (Haughton, La./Louisiana Math & Science) added a come-from-behind victory to keep the match alive.  Burton captured a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 decision by winning a third-set match tiebreak by a 13-11 score.

Sophomore Devon Fritz (Lakeside, Calif./West Hills) also contributed a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles.

In doubles play, the tandem of junior David Becerra (Brownsburg) and Hendrickson claimed an 8-6 win at the No. 2 position.  Fritz and junior Alex Gumz (Palatine, Ill.) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and in league play, while Earlham dropped to 0-1 on the campaign.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action against Hanover College on Feb. 13 in Indianapolis.
