TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) has been named the Collegeswimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker NCAA Division III National Swimmer of the Week for his efforts in two meets last weekend.
Martin won the 100-yard butterfly with the second fastest time in the nation so far this season against Wabash, completing the event in 50.16 seconds. He also won the 50-yard freestyle (21.68) and helped the 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams capture top honors against the nationally ranked Little Giants.
Martin then added two more victories on Saturday as part of Rose-Hulman's win over Illinois Wesleyan. His 200-yard freestyle time of 1:43.83 set a new Rose-Hulman school record, and Martin also won the 100-freestyle (47.83) and helped the 200-freestyle relay team earn first place.
Martin's honor marks the first time that a Rose-Hulman swimmer has been named the collegeswimming.com National Swimmer of the Week. The sophomore was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Most Valuable Swimmer and qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships last season.
Rose-Hulman is currently ranked No. 20 nationally by collegeswimming.com this week. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Nov. 16 with a home meet against Franklin College.
