NAPERVILLE, ILL. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology freshman Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Male Swimmer of the Year, in voting by league coaches.
Martin becomes just the second Conference Swimmer of the Year in Rose-Hulman history, joining national champion Matt Smith (2002).
Martin was named CCIW Co-Outstanding Performer of the Meet after recording the season's top times in the 100-butterfly and 100-freestyle and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships. His efforts included conference records in the 100-butterfly and as part of the 200-medley and 400-medley relay squads.
Martin was undefeated in the 100-butterfly prior to the NCAA Division III Nationals, in which he finished 17th overall and missed honorable mention All-American honors by just one spot. His meet victories in the 100-butterfly included against NCAA Division I competition at the Purdue University Intercollegiate Meet, and also wins against nationally recognized competition at Washington University, DePauw and Lindenwood.
Martin's efforts helped Rose-Hulman score the most points in a conference championship meet in program history as the Engineers placed a strong third in the CCIW Championships.
