TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) has been to the Capital One NCAA Division III academic all-district men's at-large team, in results released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Martin has earned one All-American award and two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Male Swimmer of the Year awards in the first two years of his career. He finished seventh in the 100-butterfly at the NCAA Division III National Championships in March. Martin also won the 100-butterfly championship at the CCIW Championships for the second consecutive year.
Martin's All-American honor marked Rose-Hulman's first since Matt Smith won a national championship in 2003. His efforts helped Rose-Hulman finish second in the team scoring at this year's CCIW Championships to set a new program record.
In the classroom, Martin carries a 3.82 grade point average as a physics major. He was also selected to the Swimming Coaches Association all-academic team for his efforts in the pool and the classroom.
Martin's career includes two individual conference championships, six individual all-conference awards, seven all-conference relay performances and three relay league championships. He also holds school records in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle, 200-freestyle and is part of five relay school records.
