WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded 10 top ten finishes in a strong performance at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet at Purdue University on Saturday.
The Intercollegiate Meet features eight of Indiana's top swimming programs, including NCAA Division I programs from Purdue, Evansville, Valparaiso and Butler.
Freshman Ellie Hong (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) won the 100-yard backstroke with a second school record in 24 hours to lead the individual performance. Hong recorded a time of 58.61 seconds to snap her own school record and beat four Division I swimmers who finished second through fifth. She also came home ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.09).
On the men's side, sophomore Orion Martin (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) paced the effort with a fourth-place in the 100-yard butterfly (50.56) and a 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (21.63 seconds). Martin finished behind only three swimmers from Purdue in the 100-yard butterfly.
Three divers had two top 10 finishes each to add points to the team score. Sophomore Regen Foote (Jasper) came home fifth in three-meter diving (202.60) and seventh in one-meter (184.90) on the women's side. Sophomore Sam Gould (Greencastle/South Putnam) added a sixth place in three-meter (234.35) and a seventh in one-meter (223.95). Sophomore Josh Maurer (Kokomo/Western) came home seventh in three-meter (206.65) and ninth in one-meter (178.50).
Rose-Hulman finished fifth overall in the men's team scoring and came home seventh on the women's side. The Fightin' Engineer men travel to Wabash on Friday, and both squads host Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday.
